John Osterweis founded Osterweis Capital Management to serve the portfolio needs of high-net-worth investors, foundations, and endowments. He is currently Chairman of the firm as well as a member of the firm’s Management Committee and a co-lead Portfolio Manager for the core equity, growth & income, and flexible balanced strategies.

After graduating from business school, John served as a Senior Analyst concentrating on the forest products and paper industry for several regional brokerage firms and later for E.F. Hutton & Company, Inc. In addition to his activities as an analyst, John served as Director of Research for two firms and managed equity portfolios for over ten years. In late 1982, John decided to devote himself full time to his portfolio management activities, and in April of 1983 launched Osterweis Capital Management.

John graduated from Bowdoin College (B.A. in Philosophy, cum laude), and Stanford Graduate School of Business (M.B.A. with top honors in Finance).

Outside of his work, John is an active supporter of our community. He has served as Director of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, Director on the Stanford Alumni Association Executive Board, Trustee of Bowdoin College, Director and Vice Chairman of Mt. Zion Hospital and Medical Center, and President of the Board of Directors for Summer Search Foundation. He currently serves as a Trustee of the San Francisco Ballet Association, Director of the San Francisco Free Clinic, and President Emeritus of the San Francisco Ballet Endowment Foundation, as well as Trustee Emeritus of Summer Search Foundation and of Bowdoin College. He also enjoys horseback riding and other outdoor activities.

Greg Hermanski, a partner at Osterweis, is a Co-Lead Portfolio Manager for the core equity, growth & income, quality cyclical growth, and flexible balanced strategies. He enjoys working with his team to protect and grow our clients’ wealth. Greg feels that humility and discipline are key to succeeding in this industry and loves the continuous chance to learn as part of his role.

Prior to joining Osterweis in 2002, Greg was a Vice President at Robertson Stephens and Co. where he was in charge of convertible bond research. Prior to that, Greg was a Research Analyst covering convertible, high yield, and distressed securities at Imperial Capital, LLC, and a Valuation Consultant for Price Waterhouse, LLC.

Greg graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a B.A. in Business/Economics. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, mountain biking, running, reading, and learning about history.

Nael Fakhry, a partner at Osterweis, is a Co-Lead Portfolio Manager for the core equity, growth & income, quality cyclical growth, and flexible balanced strategies. He loves the process of researching companies and studying the history of various industries.

Prior to joining Osterweis Capital Management in 2011, Nael worked as an Associate at American Securities, a private equity firm, and as an Analyst in the investment banking division of Morgan Stanley.

Nael graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in History, Phi Beta Kappa and the University of California Berkeley, Walter A. Haas School of Business with an M.B.A., where he was a C.J. White Scholar. Outside of his professional life, Nael enjoys coaching his kids’ soccer and basketball teams, reading, and running.

Jasmine Shen is a Senior Research Analyst for the core equity strategy. In this role she researches companies and identifies investment opportunities that can drive long-term portfolio growth. She loves learning about diverse business models and distilling the information into actionable insights.

Prior to joining Osterweis Capital Management in 2024, Jasmine was an Investment Analyst on the event-driven team at Farallon Capital. Before that, she was an Investment Research Associate on the quality value equity team at Wellington Management.

Jasmine graduated summa cum laude from Northwestern University with a B.A. in Mathematical Methods in Social Sciences and Economics, and a third major in Statistics, Phi Beta Kappa, and with interdisciplinary honors. She holds the CFA designation and is a member of the CFA Society of San Francisco. Outside of work, Jasmine enjoys going to climbing gyms and hot yoga.

Jim Callinan, a partner at Osterweis, is the Lead Portfolio Manager for the small cap growth strategy. Throughout his career he has focused on investing in companies that are early in their growth cycles. This experience has been the foundation of our high conviction, valuation-aware approach to investing in small cap growth companies.

Prior to Osterweis, Jim was the Co-Founder & Chief Investment Officer at RS Investments. He also founded the RS Growth Group LLC in 1996 and managed the RS Emerging Growth Fund from 1996 until 2010. In 1999 Jim was named Morningstar’s Domestic Stock Manager of the Year.*

Jim served as portfolio manager for the Putnam OTC Emerging Growth Fund from 1994 to 1996 and began his career at Putnam Investments as an equity research analyst in 1987. He joined Osterweis in 2016 and brought with him the Emerging Growth Partners, LP, a concentrated small cap growth strategy he founded at RS in 2006.

Jim graduated from Harvard College with a B.A. in Economics, New York University with an M.S. in Accounting, and Harvard Business School with an M.B.A. He holds the CFA designation and is a member of the Weatherbie Capital Advisory Board. Outside of work, Jim enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, and golfing.

Matt Unger, a partner at Osterweis, is a Portfolio Manager for the small cap growth strategy. He enjoys identifying investments in small cap growth companies, particularly those in the Health Care and Industrials sectors.

Prior to joining Osterweis Capital Management in 2016, Matt was a Research Associate at RS Investments, covering small cap growth companies in the medical technology and industrial sectors. Before graduate school, he worked at Platte River Capital covering the medical device sector.

Matt graduated from Trinity University with a B.S. in Finance, cum laude and Southern Methodist University, Cox School of Business with an M.B.A. He holds the CFA designation. Outside of work, Matt enjoys golfing and traveling.

Bryan Wong, a partner at Osterweis, is a Portfolio Manager for the small cap growth strategy. His likes the pursuit of uncovering hidden gems, which have the opportunity to deliver strong, durable performance so our clients can achieve their long-term objectives. Bryan enjoys investing in small companies, because it is a creative process where it is possible to gain a true edge.

Prior to joining Osterweis Capital Management in 2014, Bryan was a member of the investment team managing the endowment of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. Before that, he was an Analyst at Wohl Capital Management, a long/short hedge fund.

Bryan graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in Political Science and International Studies with distinction and from the University of California Berkeley, Haas School of Business, with an M.B.A., where he was an Investment Management Fellow. He holds the CFA designation and is a member of the CFA Society of San Francisco. Bryan also serves on the investment committee of the Asian Pacific Fund. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family and swimming.

Jamie Wolf is a Research Analyst for the small cap growth strategy. In his position he identifies smaller companies with rapid growth potential, particularly in the Consumer sector. He enjoys doing on the ground research to better understand his companies and consumer trends.

Prior to joining Osterweis Capital Management in 2023, Jamie was an Equity Analyst at Invesco LTD covering small, mid, and large cap companies in the Consumer sector. Before that, he worked at Haverford Trust Company as a Senior Research Analyst.

Jamie graduated from Franklin and Marshall College with a B.A. in Chemistry and Economics and UCLA Anderson School of Management with an M.B.A. He holds the CFA designation. He is a member of the LA CFA Society and the American Chemical Society. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys taking care of his dog Zoë.

Carl Kaufman serves in several key roles for the firm. He has managed the Osterweis Strategic Income Fund since its inception and serves as the Managing Director of Fixed Income, as well as a co-lead Portfolio Manager for the Osterweis Growth & Income Fund. Additionally, in his role as Co-President & Co-CEO he oversees key investment matters and is an integral part of the firm’s Management Committee.

He joined Osterweis Capital Management in 2002, after nearly 24 years at Robertson Stephens and Merrill Lynch.

Carl graduated from Harvard University and attended New York University Graduate School of Business Administration.

Outside his professional endeavors, he enjoys playing classical piano and actively contributes to the community as a member of the Board of Trustees for the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, supporting the arts and enhancing the cultural fabric of the SF Bay Area. Additionally, he enjoys playing golf, an activity that continually challenges his patience and precision.

Bradley (Brad) Kane is a Portfolio Manager for the strategic income strategy and a partner at the firm. In his role he provides clients with a low-risk way to increase wealth, leveraging his extensive experience and deep understanding of the market.

Prior to joining Osterweis in 2013, Brad was a Portfolio Manager and Analyst at Newfleet Asset Management, where he managed both high yield and leveraged loan portfolios. Before that, he was a Vice President at GSC Partners, focusing on management of high yield and collateralized debt obligations. Earlier in his career, he managed high yield assets as a Vice President at Mitchell Hutchins Asset Management. In these positions he learned the importance of staying focused on one’s investing strategy and discovering new securities and investor types without succumbing to trends.

Brad graduated from Lehigh University with a B.S. in Business & Economics. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys playing golf, watching lacrosse and ice hockey, and indulging in his diverse taste in music, including a particular appreciation for heavy metal.

Craig Manchuck, a partner at Osterweis, is a Portfolio Manager for the strategic income strategy. In this role he enjoys investing clients’ assets in a common sense way that is designed to generate good risk-adjusted returns. Throughout his career, Craig has learned the importance of patience and that relationships with company management teams are invaluable.

Prior to joining Osterweis Capital Management in 2017, Craig was a Managing Director of Fixed Income Sales at Stifel Nicolaus, where he was responsible for sales and origination of high yield bonds, leveraged loans, and post reorg equities. Before Stifel, he held a similar role at Knight Capital. Before that, Craig was the Executive Director for Convertible Securities and then High Yield/Distressed Securities at UBS. He has previous experience in Convertible Securities Sales at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, SBC Warburg, and Merrill Lynch.

Craig graduated from Lehigh University with a B.S. in Finance and NYU Stern School of Business with an M.B.A. Outside of work, he enjoys golfing, wine, gardening, and spending time with family.

John Sheehan, a partner at Osterweis, is a Portfolio Manager for the strategic income strategy. In his role he appreciates the opportunity to contribute to clients feeling confident that their investments are positioned to meet their long-term goals. As a portfolio manager, he likes that the bond market is an ever-evolving game that blends art and science.

Prior to joining the Strategic Income team at the end of 2023, John was a portfolio manager for the total return strategy. Before that, he spent more than 20 years working at Citigroup, first as Managing Director responsible for Investment Grade Syndicate in New York City, where he advised issuers on accessing funding in the corporate bond market. Later at Citigroup, he was Managing Director in charge of West Coast Investment Grade Sales in San Francisco, where he covered several of the largest U.S. investment grade credit investors.

John graduated from Georgetown University with a B.A. in Economics. He holds the CFA designation and is a member of the CFA Society of San Francisco. Outside of work, John enjoys swimming and skiing with his family, as well as seeing live music.

Tom Davidson is a partner at Osterweis and Director of Equity Trading. In his role his focus on best execution contributes to better investment returns for our clients. Tom enjoys the challenges the financial markets present as they continuously evolve, and the adaptation and skill development required to keep abreast of these changes.

Prior to joining Osterweis in 2003, Tom was Senior Trader at Sand Hill Advisors, overseeing equity and fixed income trading. Before that, he held trading positions at RSS Investment Counsel in San Francisco, and Alex. Brown & Sons in New York.

Tom graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a B.S. in Business Administration. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking and mountain biking around Marin County.

Adam Slavin, a partner at Osterweis, is a Portfolio Analyst and Trader. He works closely with portfolio managers and our Private Client group to facilitate the portfolio management process. Additionally, in his role as a Trader, he helps ensure that client transactions are executed in a timely and efficient manner.

Prior to joining Osterweis Capital Management in 2010 as a Performance Analyst, Adam was first a Senior Fund Accountant and then a Senior Associate and Supervisor at State Street Bank, where he oversaw the daily operations of fund accounting, monitored and reported performance to clients, and oversaw the setup of new funds.

Adam serves on the board of the San Francisco Securities Traders Association (SFSTA). Through this experience, he has strengthened relationships with others on the sell side of the business, as well as learned from others on the buy side.

Adam graduated from California State University Sacramento with a B.S. in Business Finance. Outside of his professional life, Adam enjoys golf and other fitness activities.
